Using VPNUK on a Corporate Network
Corporate, school and hospital networks often use firewalls that block standard VPN connections. This guide covers the options available to get VPNUK working on a restricted network.
Option 1: Switch to TCP Port 443
Port 443 is the same port used for HTTPS (secure web browsing) and is almost never blocked — even on the most restrictive networks. Switch your OpenVPN connection to TCP 443 using the config generator below, and it will appear as normal web traffic to the firewall.
Option 2: Use Obfuscation
If the corporate firewall uses Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) to identify and block VPN traffic on port 443, our Obfuscation protocol makes VPN traffic indistinguishable from HTTPS. See the Obfuscation Guide for setup instructions.
Option 3: Use IKEv2
IKEv2 uses UDP ports 500 and 4500 which are sometimes allowed through corporate firewalls for business VPN traffic. Try setting up a VPNUK IKEv2 connection — see the setup guide for your device.
Option 4: Connect via Mobile Hotspot
If you're on a corporate WiFi network, connecting your device to a 4G/5G mobile hotspot instead will bypass the corporate firewall entirely. Your mobile network has no VPN restrictions.
