Windows 7 VPN — IKEv2

Set up VPNUK on Windows 7 using the built-in IKEv2 VPN client. Requires certificate installation.

Note: The IKEv2 setup on Windows 7 follows the same process as Windows 10 — install the VPNUK certificate via MMC, then add a VPN connection via the Control Panel. See the detailed guide with screenshots here.

Part 1 — Install the VPNUK Certificate

  1. Download the VPNUK root certificate (vpnuk.crt)
  2. Press Windows + R, type mmc and press Enter
  3. File → Add/Remove Snap-in → Certificates → Add → Computer account → Local Computer → OK
  4. Expand Trusted Root Certification Authorities → Certificates
  5. Right-click → All Tasks → Import → select vpnuk.crt → Finish

Part 2 — Add the VPN Connection

  1. Open Control Panel → Network and Internet → Network and Sharing Centre
  2. Click Set up a new connection or network → Connect to a workplace → Use my Internet connection (VPN)
  3. Enter your VPNUK server address. Name it VPNUK IKEv2. Click Create
  4. Go to Change adapter settings, right-click the connection → Properties → Security
  5. Set Type of VPN to IKEv2. Set authentication to EAP → Microsoft: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
  6. Click OK. Right-click → Connect. Enter your VPN username and password

Connected! Your traffic is now encrypted through VPNUK.
